OMEX offers a comprehensive range of insurance policies specifically designed to insure municipal exposures. We monitor the coverage we offer, against emerging risks faced by Ontario municipalities so that we can provide you with a broad, effective insurance program. Municipal Liability This policy insures the municipality and its employees and councillors against third party claims for bodily injury and property damage arising out of the municipality's operations. The OMEX policy insures sewer back up coverage with deductibles applying on a per occurrence basis as opposed to a per claimant basis. We believe this is currently unique to our program and protects our members against unwanted self-insured claims. Errors & Omissions This policy insures the municipality against financial loss arising out of third party claims for a professional error or wrongful act. Our policy includes claims arising out of the RFP or tendering process, as we believe that this is a fundamental municipal service and a necessity for all staff required to handle the Purchasing function for their municipality's. We also include under this policy coverage for Municipal Conflict of Interest and defence expense for breach of statute. Environmental Impairment This policy provides coverage on a broad basis for third party claims arising out of a pollution event. It covers municipal operations and is not restricted to a specific site. Auto and Auto Transit OMEX insures both municipal fleet and transit operations as required under the Provinces No Fault automobile legislation. The policy offers replacement cost coverage on the vehicles. Property This policy insures the municipality's physical assets (buildings, contents, computers, etc.) under a broad, manuscripted wording against physical damage, including loss of use, caused by an insured peril. The policy is written on an All Risk basis including earthquake and flood. There is no co-insurance penalty or margins clause that would restrict recovery in the event of a loss. Boiler & Machinery This policy protects the municipality against claims for boiler explosion and mechanical or electrical breakdown. The policy has high limits and broad coverage that includes both physical damage and loss of use. Crime This policy insures the municipality's money and securities against losses arising out of employee dishonesty, depositor's forgery, counterfeit paper currency, etc. Councillors and Firefighters Accident While OMEX's licence does not allow them to insure this type of coverage within the reciprocal, in order to ensure a well-rounded program we arranged for an insurance market to provide this coverage to our members at a reasonable cost with attractive limits.
